Facebook IPO Filing Details Data Center Spending

February 2, 2012 — With 845 million users, and more than half of users logging in everyday, Facebook has provided some insight into how much it costs to run its infrastructure through the release of its IPO filing on Wednesday. Facebook has invested more than $1 billion in its infrastructure, comprised of its own data centers in Oregon, North Carolina and Sweden, and leased facilities in California and Virginia, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.

December 2, 2011 — Facebook Prineville, Oregon data center manager Ken Patchett said it is “B.S.” that companies like Google keep their data center design a secret and view it as having a competitive advantage over their rivals, according to a report by Wired.

Cisco Study Estimates Cloud Traffic Will Grow 12-Fold by 2015

November 30, 2011 — Networking hardware manufacturer Cisco announced on Tuesday it has released the results of its inaugural Cisco Global Cloud Index (2010 – 2015) which estimates global cloud computing traffic will grow 12-fold from 130 exabytes to reach a total of 1.6 zettabytes annually (one zettabyte is equal to a trillion gigabytes) by 2015, a 66 percent compound annual growth rate.

Data Center Firm DataSpace Partners Receives Tier III Facility Certification

October 6, 2011 — Russian data center developer DataSpace Partners announced on Thursday that it has been awarded Tier III facility certification, the first designation in Russia and Eastern Europe, according to the press release. A year ago, Dataspace announced that it had a $150 million loan to build or convert industrial sites in Moscow into data centers.
