NTT Communications Acquires 74 Percent of Indian Web Host Netmagic Solutions

January 25, 2012 — Japanese telecommunications provider NTT Communications announced on Wednesday that it has acquired a 74 percent stake in Indian data center services provider Netmagic Solutions. The acquisition is subject to the approval of authorities in India, according to the press release. NTT Com says the addition of Netmagic’s data center services and sites will expand its capability to provide cloud service to the Indian market

Mitsubishi Launches 337 Million Fund for Data Center Properties

August 16, 2011 — Japanese trading firm Mitsubishi announced on Monday it has launched the nation’s first real estate fund that exclusively invests in data center properties. The fund is designed to take advantage of the growing demand in the data center market, which is currently estimated at $17 billion, despite the country’s devestating earthquake and tsunami in March.

March 18, 2011 — Cloud storage provider Nirvanix announced on Thursday it has launched a new program that provides its customers currently storing data in its Node 3 data center in Japan with the option of moving their data to one of its other data centers for free. Customers can move their data to any other locations in the Nirvanix Cloud Storage Networ, either on a temporary or full-time basis.

Equinix says Japanese Government Will Prioritize Power for Data Centers

March 15, 2011 — Data center operator Equinix announced on Tuesday that its two data centers in Tokyo, TY1 and TY2, are operating under normal conditions, following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan last Friday. The 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami has reportedly affected some data centers in the region. NTT Communications appeared to have lost its IP-VPN connection in the Tohoku region, which subsequently affected some of its services.
