HostExploit’s Top “Bad Host” Oversee Improves Standing in Q4 Report

(WEB HOS T INDUSTRY REVIEW) — HostExploit , an organization devoted to publishing data on the involvement of Hosting Providers (willing or unknowingly) in cybercrime, issued its Top 50 Bad Hosts and Networks report for Q4 2011 on Tuesday, showing, among other things that Oversee.net, which topped the rankings in its Q3 report had improved its standing through a concerted effort at “responsible hosting.” The 30-page report, which is available as a free PDF download from the HostExploit site , provides an overall list of the top 50 hosts according to “badness,” weighted by allocated address space, as a means of spotting security malpractice among top hosting providers. Factors consider include spam, exploit servers, phishing activity, command and control servers, infected websites and activity from specific botnets.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK-based web hosting provider Fasthosts announced on Tuesday that it has launched a new review site specifically for Fasthosts customers to share their experiences with the company and provide their feedback, and for prospective customers to use as a resource in researching the hosting provider. The company says the new site, separate from the Fasthosts website proper at www.fasthostsreviews.com , is a furthering of its customer care program, and a reflection of its commitment to “honest and transparent communication” with its customers. The user-generated reviews site is a staple of online commerce, with Yelp being a prominent example, and a user-reviews section built into just about every online storefront (Amazon.com, for example, contains a huge collection of product reviews)

The Open Group Publishes Standards for SOA and Cloud Computing

The new standards are SOA Reference Architecture, which acts as a blueprint for creating and evaluating SOA Solutions, and the Service-Oriented Cloud Computing Infrastructure Framework, which outlines the concepts and elements necessary for infrastructures to support SOA and Cloud initiatives.
